Holding Our Republican Parish Council Members Accountable
It is troubling to see that some politicians are using our Republican Party for purposes other than serving the public. The Republican Party, and in particular our local Parish Executive Committee, has a clear platform of principles in which we believe. Three of our fundamental principles are: fiscal accountability (i.e., lower taxes and responsible spending), limited government, and more freedom for the people. (See below on this page for the full ARPEC platform.) Sadly, some politicians use our name by registering as Republicans, but consistently pursue policies that are contrary to these fundamental principles. Such politicians are not Republicans at heart; they are |
"Republicans In Name Only" (RINOs). Far too often, elected officials bear little resemblance to the candidates they once were. Politicians are very skillful at manipulating voters' attitudes at election time, then abruptly switching their positions when the voters are not looking. Each voter's duty is to look beyond the grandiose proclamations of our elected officials and search for the truth. Who stands on principle, and who drifts on whim? For the year 2019, this website will examine the records (either votes or public positions taken on nine issues since the last election) of the five Republicans on the Ascension Parish Council: - Bill Dawson from District 2 - Daniel "Doc" Satterlee from District 4 - Aaron Lawler from District 7 - Terri Casso from District 8 - John Cagnolatti from District 10 They are all registered Republicans, but not all stand on Republican principles. Are there any who are Republicans in Name Only (RINOs)? Is your council member one of them? Please check out their record and politely let them know what you think. Anyone receiving less than 50% of support for Republican principles will be considered a RINO. |
In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate—look to his character as a man of known principle, of tried integrity, and undoubted ability for the office. |

PLATFORM
Ascension Republican Parish Executive Committee
The MISSION of this organization shall be to promote limited government, lower taxes, strong national defense and individual freedom for all citizens in accordance with the laws of Louisiana and the U.S. Constitution. We will encourage, support and plan public events that support and promote our mission, take stands on issues and inform citizens on key issues that affect them.
Our Conservative Core Values
ARTICLE I
Individual Liberty We believe that our nation was founded on religious freedom is strengthened by faith, private property rights and God endowed liberties. These freedoms must be maintained to preserve the foundation of our society.
ARTICLE II
Sanctity of Life We believe in the sanctity of life, that life begins at conception, and the importance of extending dignity and worth to all members of our society regardless of age.
ARTICLE III
Family We believe that the strength of our nation, state, and community lies with the family unit that consists of the marriage of one man and one woman.
ARTICLE IV
Education We believe that the best education allows parents, not the state, to have control over educational options regardless of geographic or socio-economic background. We will expect that education be given the priority it deserves and work to upgrade our education system so citizens can be self-reliant and prosperous.
ARTICLE V
Economic Policy We believe in free enterprise with less taxation and limited government that is business-friendly. Encouraging individual initiative rather than wealth redistribution will continue to bring our nation opportunity, economic growth, and prosperity for all citizens. The free market is more efficient than the government.
ARTICLE VI
Fiscal Responsibility We believe government should balance the budget by reducing spending not raising taxes, remove excessive taxation, eliminate unproductive agencies and needless bureaucratic regulations. Tax policies that discriminate against families undermine our society.
ARTICLE VII
State and National Defense We believe that Americans value and should preserve our military strength, work to extend peace, freedom and human rights. We will honor our soldiers who give of themselves and their lives to preserve our freedoms.
ARTICLE VIII
Limited Government We believe that the proper role of government is to uphold the Constitution and only critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations. The best government is that which governs least. We encourage term limits at all levels of government and advocate campaign finance reform to level the playing field for all candidates.
ARTICLE IX
Environment We believe that our state and nation have been blessed with abundant natural resources. It is our responsibility to use, develop and protect these resources as good stewards. We support reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
ARTICLE X
Constitutional Government We believe in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Our government has neither the right nor responsibility to control every aspect of our lives.
We will encourage accountability by frequent contact with public officials, staying abreast of voting records and ask that officials listen to the people. We will provide strong support for those candidates and elected officials who subscribe and promote our CONSERVATIVE CORE VALUES and have an endorsement process that supports this platform.
